How We Started
Many years ago, I helped coach my young sons’ Little League and youth football teams. As a software engineer, I created an animated playbook app for iPad and iPhone, and then a team management app. Both were under the banner of “on3 apps”, and both were there to help me be a better coach. And a dream began: perhaps creating apps could become a full time business.
As the boys grew older and I had to focus on other jobs and responsibilities, the apps were eventually removed from the App Store. But the dream didn’t die; it only lay dormant. In time, both of my sons graduated from the University of Florida as software engineers themselves, eleven years apart.
A New Meaning
Originally, “on 3” came from the chant every team knows: “Win on 3, win on 3... 1, 2, 3, Win!” When we revived on3 apps, it took on a new meaning: the three of us, a dad and two sons, standing on a strong foundation of three others, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, asking how we might use our gifts to help others and bring glory to our King.
A 'Duck Dynasty' type of ministry
For years, while the boys were growing up, I often thought about Duck Dynasty - how God used a man and his sons to advance God's kingdom by simply using the gifts God gave them. That’s our prayer for on3 apps: that God would use it as a vehicle for His glory and a blessing to others, simply by using the gifts He gave us.
There’s nothing special about us. We simply ask God to lead us according to His will and we leave the results to Him, rejoicing all the way.
